Cookout Cookies

So, this year I decided to make cookies to take to the family cookout. I have to give credit to all of those people out there who make cookies full-time, because they are a ton of work. In the end though, I think they are worth the effort. Since I am not a cookie connoisseur, I had to work with the cookie cutters I had on hand, to turn them into what I wanted. I think overall the cookies looked very cute!

Some in progress pictures!

 Here is the finished project!

I hope everyone has a wonderful, safe holiday, and enjoyed their cookouts! Let me know what you think of my cookies!

Summer Garden Bridal Shower

I have been waiting to share this party with all of you! This party is actually my bridal shower that my family and friends threw for me last summer. The theme was summer garden party, it was not a surprise, because I made the cake. The colors for the party were purple, light green, pink, and white. The flowers were all flowers that could be found in a summer garden. The centerpieces were purple and green bottles that were lit with a tea light and surrounded by a ring of flowers. We gave them away to some special guests at the end of the party. I love the floating butterflies and the ladybug accents!
Here is the table all set-up!
Example of the green centerpiece!

The cake table featured my cake and two cupcake towers on each side. The cupcakes were made by my mother and the flavors included strawberry daiquiri, mint mojito, chocolate martini, and cosmopolitan.
I made all of the cupcake wrappers using a pattern. I cut the wrappers from coordinating scrapbook paper.
The cupcakes were really yummy!

Here are some close-ups of the cake! The flavors were pumpkin with cream cheese icing, chocolate with chocolate ganache filling and chocolate buttercream, and vanilla with vanilla buttercream. I was really pleased with how the cake turned out!
Everything on the cake was edible, even the butterflies!
I hope you enjoyed a look at my bridal shower. It was really a special day for me and my husband. I loved working on some of the details for the party (I have to help plan a party even if it is for me). Please let me know what you think of the party! This theme could be used for a variety of things including birthdays, and weddings! I hope you enjoyed it!

Fun Children's Cakes

We have a couple of fun kids cakes to share with all of you this week. Jason and I teamed up on most of these cakes. He usually does anything that requires sculpting and I do the fun part, the decorating!

First up we have an adorable topsy-turvy frog birthday cake. The birthday cake was for a little girl turning six who wanted a frog themed party. The mother wanted the frog cake to be just for the little girl, so that's exactly how we made it! The frog is sitting on top of a lily pad, can be removed and given to the little girl.
The frog is so cute!
Here a picture with the frog removed from the cake.
Next up, we have a Mod Monkey themed first birthday with matching cupcakes! The monkey was hand-cut to match the images from the decorations.

Lastly, we have another Mod Monkey themed first birthday (must be popular). Jason made the two monkeys for this cake. They were so cute and fat!

Thanks for stopping by, and let us know which one is your favorite!

Elmo First Birthday Cake

This past weekend I had the opportunity to make a first birthday cake for a friend of the family. The grandmother wanted an Elmo cake for the birthday boy. She selected red velvet for the flavor, but we decided to steer clear of red icing, (because it stains) and instead I covered Elmo in fondant. I think that it turned out wonderful, although it was a late night putting all that hair on Elmo.
Elmo's body is all cake. His head, arms, and legs are rice cereal treats. We designed it so that his hands rested on top of the present to hold the weight of the arms (the present is also cake).

Here is a picture of Elmo and friends! (Sorry about the picture quality).
I love seeing babies rip into cakes! It is so much fun!

Happy first Birthday Jessie! I hope that everyone enjoyed this cake. If you have any questions, or comments please feel free to share them with us! We are approaching 100 "likes" on Facebook, when we get there I will do a giveaway. I am not sure what it will be yet but something fun, and, of course, cake related.

Mother's Day Gift Idea and Tutorial

Since Mother's Day is quickly approaching I thought I would share what I am making the three favorite mothers in my life! This is a quick and inexpensive way to wow your mother on her big day!

First, I bought three cute little buckets from Target for $1, you can use any container that you would like; flowers pots and mugs work well also. I decided to customize the buckets with paintings for each of the women. Here is my set-up before I started painting.
 One down, two to go!
All three buckets with different paintings for each mother.

Here is what you will need to make the cupcake bouquets. You will, of course, need cupcakes, the container to hold the cupcakes, rocks to weigh down the container, a styrofoam ball, toothpicks, and double sided tape. The size of the styrofoam ball depends on the size of the opening of the container. You want the ball to sit nicely inside, but you don't want to much or to little of the ball to show. I bought my styrofoam ball from Walmart for $3.
First, I tape the sides of the bucket with double sided tape to secure the ball a little bit. At this stage, don't forget to add your rocks, because the bouquets will be very top heavy when complete.

Then, just start in the back ( in case of gaping) and add you cupcakes in rows using three or four toothpicks for each cupcake. I found that one toothpick was not enough to hold the mini cupcakes in place. I imagine that regular size cupcakes would take even more toothpicks, but I like the mini cupcakes because you can place them closer together.

Once you have you bouquet complete then you can add you leaves or vines or hide the gaps between the cupcakes.

Here are the three finished bouquets for the special mothers in my life! I think that they turned out great, and once all of the cupcakes are eaten they can reuse the buckets!

I hope that you enjoyed this tutorial, and I hope that you will go and make cupcake bouquets for all the special women in your life! Happy Mother's Day to all the wonderful mothers out there!
