Owen's not so scary Mickey Mouse Halloween Birthday

I am so excited to share this party with all of you because it is my nephew's 2nd birthday party! I have been planning his dessert table for months now, and I absolutely loved the way it came out. We decided on a Mickey Mouse Halloween theme for the party and desserts. I worked really hard to pull together a cohesive design for the table and decor. The desserts for the table included dirt cake shooters, cinnamon sugar cookies, spooky spider red velvet cupcakes, and chocolate covered Oreos. For the cake I really wanted to do something fun so I decided to do the characters dressed in their favorite Halloween costumes. I made all of the decor for the table including the Happy Birthday banner, the OWEN sign, the Mickey mummy wreath, the dessert table labels and paper pinwheels. I had so much fun planning and executing this table especially since it was for my favorite little guy!

My nephew Owen loves cookies so of course I had to make some for him. The two big pumpkin cookies in the front I made especially for him to enjoy and he loved them.

We added ghost faces to all of the meringues to add to the festivities!
Here is the sign I made out of wood letters that I painted to match the theme.
Last month while we were in Disney I stood in line to get a special Birthday wish from Mickey for Owen.
My mother found these cute spider decorations for the cupcakes so we had spooky spider cupcakes, and a spider web cupcake holder for them.
Close-up of all the characters! First up Mickey mummy!
 Minnie witch!
Frankenstien Goofy!
Devil Donald!

In typical party fashion I totally forgot to capture any pictures during the party once I started playing with Owen. I am so bad with that! I did manage to get a few shots of him on opening his gifts and one of all three of us before we cut the cake.

Isn't he the cutest!

Love him!
Happy Birthday Owen! I hope you loved your cake. I can't wait to do it all over again next year! In case you missed Owen's 1st Birthday extravaganza you can check that out here. I love to see how much he has changed and grown over the year!  Don't forget to check out my Pinterest board for many more great Halloween inspired birthday ideas.

Grandma's 85th Birthday

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of making a dessert table for a very special woman in my life, my grandmother turned 85 so we threw a party to celebrate. I was given free range for the desserts, so I made a variety of different desserts including chocolate pumpkin bread pudding, vanilla cake pops, mini apple pies, salted caramel shooters, mini red velvet whoopie pies, mini key lime tarts, and cookies with Reese cup centers. The cake itself was spice cake with cream cheese icing. Yum!
The party theme was garden so the cake had a rose icing pattern and, the cake pops looked like real roses in a flower tin.
The colors for the party were light green and pink so I tried to keep all of the desserts and cake plates in that color palate.

I love these mini apple pies!

Here are some party goers posing with my grandmother.
My nephew stealing some candy! Good thing he is so cute!

Happy Birthday Grandma. I hope you enjoyed your party!

Cupcake Wedding

I had the pleasure of making Tiffany and Conrad's wedding cake along with a lot of cupcakes for their April wedding. The wedding was held at Top of the Bay in Aberdeen Md, which has an amazing view of the bay. You can see in some of the pictures the view from the reception area.

Tiffany wanted her cake to match her invites so we created a border along the bottom tier to match. When I saw the invite I wasn't sure I was going to be able to pull off all of the small delicate piping, but I think it turned out better then I thought it would. I used a piping tip 00 to pipe all of the small lines and scroll work.

Her is a close-up of the bottom tier.

Along with the cake, Tiffany ordered 325 cupcakes in three different flavors: red velvet with cream cheese icing, vanilla cake with lemon buttercream, and chocolate cake with raspberry buttercream. For each flavor we made a different decoration to go on top. The vanilla cupcakes got a peacock colored chocolate heart, the chocolate cupcakes got a peacock colored ribbon rose, and the red velvets got chocolate shavings.
I think the cupcake display looked great with all of the different cupcakes lined up.

Congratulations Tiffany and Conrad!

Racing 40th Birthday

When I was asked by my sister-in-law to make a cake for long-time boyfriend's 40th birthday, I was so excited. The theme for the party was drag racing since that was his hobby, and she wanted the cake to look exactly like the car he currently races. I also wanted to do a dessert table for the event since I knew that a car cake would not feed the 70 people that had RSVP'd to the event.

The cake was pretty much done all by my husband. I know he is so talented isn't he? The photos do not do this cake justice. You cannot see all of the door paneling details and things that he added to really make the car come to life.

The dessert table was a challenge because I did not want to make it to childish but wanted to keep within the theme of racing. I used my more modern cake plates and serving dishes and kept all of the dessert signage as adult-like as possible. I think I achieved a good balance, and was happy with the outcome. For the table, I made chocolate cupcakes, s'more pops, chocolate covered pretzels, cheesecake bites, vanilla/strawberry dessert shooters, and an assortment of cookies and candies for the children. I hope you enjoy the table!

We placed the cake on a wooden crate which, we then covered with a tablecloth so that the cake would not be lost behind all of the desserts.
Awesome cake that read: Happy Birthday 40th Chris! It's all downhill racing from here!
Here is the birthday boy cutting his cake with his daughter and niece watching!
Hope you all enjoyed this party. Let me know what you thought of the dessert table by leaving me some comments. Did I achieve the look I was going for with the table and decorations? I hope Chris had a very Happy Birthday and I enjoyed being a part of it!

Happy Valentine's Day!

So I know that for most of you Valentine's Day is almost over but I still wanted to share my Valentine's day dessert table with all of you. The colors I choose to go with are pretty standard for Valentine's day and I added a polka dot motif throughout the table as well. I hope you enjoy!

The banner is from Lily's Laundry and the dessert tags I made myself to match the table design.

For the cake I went with a modern tailored look. The design for the top and bottom tier was a design I first saw made by the Cakegirls and loved the way it looked so I had to use it on this cake! I think the cake is modern and sweet and perfect for Valentine's day!

Don't you just love these mini cupcake dishes that I found at the Pottery Barn outlet. They are super cute and display individual cupcakes beautifully.

Hope everyone has a very sweet Valentine's Day!
