Elmo First Birthday Cake

This past weekend I had the opportunity to make a first birthday cake for a friend of the family. The grandmother wanted an Elmo cake for the birthday boy. She selected red velvet for the flavor, but we decided to steer clear of red icing, (because it stains) and instead I covered Elmo in fondant. I think that it turned out wonderful, although it was a late night putting all that hair on Elmo.
Elmo's body is all cake. His head, arms, and legs are rice cereal treats. We designed it so that his hands rested on top of the present to hold the weight of the arms (the present is also cake).

Here is a picture of Elmo and friends! (Sorry about the picture quality).
I love seeing babies rip into cakes! It is so much fun!

Happy first Birthday Jessie! I hope that everyone enjoyed this cake. If you have any questions, or comments please feel free to share them with us! We are approaching 100 "likes" on Facebook, when we get there I will do a giveaway. I am not sure what it will be yet but something fun, and, of course, cake related.

What a brillante creation - i was wondering how long it would have taken to do all of Elmo's Hair - then i read - i am sure it was a late night for you - but well worth your effort - again, its Briante.
